About Browns, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Browns is a small Illinois village located in Edwards County. As of 2010, the population here was only 134, down from 175 residents that called the community home a decade earlier. Browns is situated on Edwards County’s eastern border, with Bonpas Creeker serving as the eastern village limit. Illinois Route 15 passes through the village just to the north, leading to Albion to the west and Mount Carmel to the east. Browns is known for being a “dry” community, a stance it has upheld since the days of Prohibition.

With such a small population, there are few businesses and attractions located in Browns. Locals might like to grab a bite to eat at Mel’s Diner, and other eateries are located in nearby Mount Carmel - Twin Rivers Restaurant, Taco Tierra, and Hog Heaven BBQ. Nearby Albion has some great specialty shops that visitors may like to browse through, including Divine Gifts and Harvey’s Flower Shop & Garden Center. There are also golf courses in nearby communities, including Fendrich Golf Course in Evansville, IN and Victoria National Golf Club in Newburg, IN.

The climate of Browns transitions between humid subtropical and humid continental zones. Winters are dry but cold, receiving less snowfall than the rest of the state. However, overnight lows fall into the 20s, so residents will need to be prepared with the right home heating system. Regular maintenance of gas or electric furnace systems can ensure that these units last for as long as possible.

Summertime conditions in Browns are hot and muggy. It isn’t uncommon for daily highs in July to reach well into the 90s, and there are a few days where 100 degree temperatures are recorded. To stay cool, Browns area residents will need a reliable central air conditioner at home. Energy Star appliances can also keep utility costs affordable while preventing heat-related illnesses.
