About West Salem, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

West Salem is a small Illinois village located in Edwards County. As of 2013, about 890 people called West Salem home – a population decrease of over 110 residents since the 2000 census. The community is located about 12 miles northeast of the county seat of Albion. Historically, West Salem has had success in the fruit and brick industries, as well as manufacturing, and in the 1980s the community experienced an oil boom. Despite being located in Illinois, which is not known for earthquakes, West Salem has experienced three in the last 4 years ranging from 3.6 to 5.2 in magnitude.

The Village of West Salem is home to a few popular businesses owned by locals. There are several restaurants in the community, including R & J’s Café, the West Salem Village Café, Casey’s Carry Out Pizza, and Gary’s. There are also some small stores that provide a great place to purchase a gift, including the Flower Shop, Apocary Shoppe, Glenna’s Balloon-N-More, George’s Farm Supply, and Goldsmith Home Furniture.

West Salem area residents will need to have their home climate control systems ready at all times, as weather conditions can change with the season. In the summer, outdoor recreation is popular due to the sunny and hot conditions. However, there are many days where thermostat readings jump well into the 90s. The area is also quite muggy, which can make conditions almost unbearable without an efficient central air conditioner in place.

Winter weather is markedly different. Average highs in January – the coolest month out of the year – only reach the mid-30s, on average. Overnight lows can fall well below the freezing point, with about 22 inches of snowfall each season. These conditions can make the area quite dangerous, both indoors and outdoors, unless residents invest in the right gas or electric furnace.
